Home Improvement Discoveries

I have been painting like a mad women these days. It's so nice to see a change happening finally at our humble home. Josh is constantly outside making yard improvements, I am inside making improvements. But living in an older house means there's some history to it. We know some of the history of the house but we are discovering things as we go too. Outside there are baby footprints and handprints in different areas of concrete, names scratched into a concrete walkway, but other wierd unexplained things too. Like:

Unexplained hole number one, while ripping wallpaper off the wall this was discovered with wiring that goes nowhere, that we know of.

Unexplained hole number 2, under our pantry there was a vent but when I took it off to paint there was nothing behind the vent and the vent was actually covered with paper from the inside. There is a matching vent to the left of the picture in our guest bedroom. Same thing. Wierd.

See this wallpaper? This is all that's left of it on our bedroom wall. Nice huh? Faux brick wall anyone? And guess what was underneath this wallpaper.....more wallpaper!

While pulling off wallpaper layer number 2 in our bedroom we found this unexplained hole number 3 patched with cardboard and then taped with packing tape. Now that's a solution, just wallpaper over it. Problem solved. (notice the 2nd layer of wallpaper? Real nice.)

Unexplained hole number 4, see this picture? It was just left hanging in the house at the end or our hallway. How nice of them to leave us some artwork.

When I removed the ugly thing this was what was behind it! A huge hole! From what, furniture? Kids running too fast down the hall? A head? We'll never know.

And lastly, just when I think I got all the wallpaper off the wall I discover more. This time they just painted on top of it and stuck a chair rail on top to cover the wallpaper line. Holy wallpaper. I can't take anymore. And yes, I have been spending all my time priming our "big red room" as we call it. It's not red anymore, for the most part. But it's still only half way done.

I'm sure we'll find more things as we continue our home improvement journey but that's all for now! Hope you enjoyed the tour.

Can you smell it?

I smelled spring today. Do you know what I'm talking about? It's like how you can smell Fall. If you live in the valley you don't know what I'm talking about. I love it here. So when Josh came home for lunch and told me how nice it was outside I believed him but I didn't realize it was this nice outside. The kids and I decided to go outside and jump on the tramp so I went out first to test the temp. I was a little bit shocked when I felt that it was nice enough to come out without any coats on! Wow, was I excited! So we decided to have a picnic under the trampoline because it seemed so nice under there. After a while the wind picked up a bit and it chilled us out from underneath the trampoline to on top of it. Much better. The sun felt so good. Signs of Spring.

Other signs include:
Guess what popped up in my strawberry patch! When I dug it up last summer I only found 2 bulbs that I moved. I guess I missed a few. I found about 12 tulip bulbs sprouting up in them when I pulled off the pine needles covering them. So I transplanted them to another flower bed. Hopefully they do well there. What a promising site to see when those little tulips start to peek out.Turning the unfrozen ground getting ready for the garden.
And Sirius spends more time outside these days just lounging in the dirt.
Green in the strawberry patch.

Can't wait for our trees to get leaves again!
